BREAKING GENDER BARRIER IN POLITICS
In a country where gender stereotypes continue to affect many aspects of life, the rise of women leaders in politics has been a significant development. While women have held various political positions in india, becoming a chief minister is an achievement that remains out of reach for many. However, there is one Indian state that has managed to break this glass ceiling once but twice.

INDIAN STATES HAS HAD TWO WOMEN CHIEF MINISTERS
The chief minister is the chief executive of the Indian state. In accordance with the Constitution of India, the governor is a state’s de jure head, but de facto executive authority rests with the chief minister. Following elections to the legislative assembly, the state’s governor usually invites the party (or coalition) with a majority of seats to form the government. The governor appoints the chief minister, whose council of ministers is collectively responsible to the assembly. Given that she has the confidence of the assembly, the chief minister’s term is for five years and is subject to no term limits.
1. Uttar Pradesh
Uttar Pradesh has seen Two Women Chief Ministers.
- The first Woman Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh was Smt. Sucheta Kriplani.
She was the first-ever Woman Chief Minister in India. Her CM tenure was 1963–1967. She was a freedom fighter. She was the founder of the All India Mahila Congress. And she was the wife of Acharya J.B. Kripalani, a well-known Gandhian Leader.
- The second CM of Uttar Pradesh was Kumari Mayawati. She has been elected 4 times as CM of UP.
2. Tamil Nadu
Another State to have two women as CMs is Tamil Nadu.
- Janaki Ramachandran was CM of Tamil Nadu in 1988 for a very short period, only 23 days. She was the wife of MGR, the great leader of TN.
- J. Jayalalitha, also called Amma, is One of the most popular Leaders in South India after MGR and NTR. Jaya Amma was the CM for several times.
3. New Delhi

Although it is a Union Territory, but there have been two Women chief Ministers in Delhi.
- Smt. Sushma Swaraj, the current External Affairs Minister, Union of India.
- Smt. Sheila Dixit, the Longest-ruling CM of Delhi for 3 consecutive terms.
